Learn about the highest goals of

human life from ancient scriptures!

Introduction

Upanishads are Sanskrit scriptures of deep contemplation of human life. They talk about the highest goals of human life. The teachings of these scriptures remain unmatched till date. No language in the world has translated all Upanishads. Over 108 Upanishads have been translated into English and Hindi but only 60 Upanishads have been translated in Marathi. Due to fewer translations, people are deprived of learning valuable life lessons. Thus, we at Sundar Sanskar and Swadhyay Mandal envisioned translating over 200 Upanishads through this first of its kind project.

Why is Upanishad translation necessary?

  • It can help in finding a connection between Marathi and Sanskrit Literatures written by our Saints. It will also help in understanding the various concepts of Sant Sahitya.
  • Upanishads contain vast knowledge that can benefit the people even in the 21st century. Translation in Marathi language can help in making this knowledge available for a wide range of readers.
  • It will be an important contribution to the Marathi Literature.

Classification of Upanishads

There are over 200 Upanishads available. They are classified as follows:

  • First Section: There are 11 Main Upanishads (Ken, Kanth, Mandukya, etc)
  • Second Section: There are 41 Upanishads on Yog like Brahma and Atma, on spiritual subjects (Adhyatma), and so on.
  • Third Section: There are 150 Upanishads on various deities.

What are the features of this project?

  • This project offers an in-depth and thoughtful preface by Param Pujjya Swami Govind Dev Giri Ji
  • Senior scholars in study of Upanishads Dr. Anshumati Dunakhe from Pune and Dr. Leena Rastogi from Nagpur are working as editor in this project.
  • Writers having knowledge on Upanishads are also working and contributing to this project.
  • It will provide great guidance to students of Sant Literature & Vedic Sanskrit Literature.
